| PAVLIK SELECTED FOR LIFETIME PASS |
“Mike’s fiscal talents were a huge benefit to the board and his dedication to the fair organization and the Siskiyou County community will be missed by all that worked with Mike to make the fair a success each year” stated Rebecca Desmond, past CEO, “Mike was so well connected with the community and had the pulse of all things going on, that was a huge help.” The Lifetime pass for the Siskiyou Golden Fair is awarded to individuals that have dedicated a significant amount of time, resources and energy to the organization and Michael Pavlik has certainly done that through his years of service and support. Organizations like the Siskiyou Golden Fair require groups of community minded individuals to get involved for the good of all and Michael Pavlik’ tenure on the board was greatly appreciated. Join Michael and the community at the flagpole on opening night as we all celebrate the 2010 run of our county’s traditions. | 2010 BLUE RIBBON AWARD RECOGNIZES FAIR AMBASSADORS |
Each year the fair honors an individual or organization that has gone above and beyond in the area of volunteering and/or sponsoring the fairgrounds. The Junior Fair Board fits this description to a capital T. So far this year they have volunteered over 650 hours to the fairgrounds and will be sponsoring the championship buckles for the Jim Davidson Pee Wee showmanship competition at the fair. “We have an amazing group of teenagers this year”, said advisor Janet Eastlick. We have added a lot of new activities, and they have stepped up to the plate and have done a great job!” The Junior Fair Board was started in 2005 and was designed to develop Siskiyou County Youth in the areas of leadership and organizational skills, while at the same time teach them the general operation of the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds. They volunteer at interim events like the Siskiyou Sportsmen’s Expo and the Holiday Gift Faire, and of course at the Fair in August. They also organize their own events and fundraisers like Pre-Fair, the ‘Frightening at the Fairgrounds’ haunted house, the Drive Thru BBQ Rib Dinner, and a Karaoke Contest during the fair. “We definitely stay busy”, said President, David Jespersen. “There isn’t much sitting around on our board, but we have fun.” The Junior Fair Board works hard all year to raise money for their scholarship fund. This year with help from Patrick Desmond and Afterglow Productions, they were able to raise over $900 for their scholarship fund with their haunted house. Because of this great fundraiser, the Junior Fair Board handed out $750 in scholarships to two Siskiyou County graduating seniors. This year the Junior Fair Board was able to travel to the California State Fair and learn how a large fair runs. “It’s always been a goal to take the kids to State Fair”, said Eastlick. “With State Fair moving their dates this year, we were able to finally do it.” Seven Junior Fair Board members went to Sacramento in late July and met up with members of the State Fair Youth programs to tour Cal Expo and experience State Fair. For all these reasons the Siskiyou Golden Fair Board of Directors has selected this outstanding group of young people to receive the Blue Ribbon award at the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, August 11 at 5 p.m. The Junior Fair Board will be accepting applications for the 2010-2011 board up until August 20th. Applications can be found in the fair office and online at www.sisqfair.com. “There really aren’t enough good things I can say about the Junior Fair Board”, said Eastlick. “This organization gives our Siskiyou County Youth a chance to shine, and every year they rise to the challenge!” For more information, contact the fair office at 842-2767 or info@sisqfair.com. The 2010 Siskiyou Golden Fair, “Country Roots & Cowboy Boots,” runs August 11-15 in Yreka.

| JACK INGRAM AND TRAILER CHOIR TO ROCK SVB GRANDSTAND |
“This is a new and fresh package of country music entertainment,” said fair CEO Cliff Munson. “The market is very tough for a small fair like ours and we are very excited to have put together this great show.” When Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for "Best New Male Vocalist," thousands of people in the audience had to be smiling to themselves about that whole "new" thing. They knew the 30-something, steel-eyed veteran accepting that trophy on that stage in Vegas had been rocking roadhouses, theaters and stadiums relentlessly since 1997, that he'd been celebrated by critics and fans of hard-core country music for more than a decade, and that as a Texas-born songwriter and performer, he'd been on the short list of next generation artists who could fill the boots of Lone Star legends like Willie and Waylon and the boys. But the award did mean that Ingram, after trials and setbacks that would have buckled other artists, had at last matched the commercial success he'd always wanted with the integrity on which he'd always insisted. So he told the crowd with no small measure of pride and triumph that night that "big dreams and high hopes" can come true. Now, as if to validate and amplify that truth, Ingram remains in the forefront of country music with the album Big Dreams & High Hopes, the seventh studio disc of his career and his third for Nashville maverick indie label Big Machine Records. Its 11 tracks range through the many facets of Ingram's unique take on country music and songwriting. There's the textured and contemplative "Seeing Stars" sung in ethereal tandem with Patty Griffin. You'll find a couple of superb roots rocking country songs Jack wrote with compadre and mentor Radney Foster. And you've probably already heard the swimming hole party anthem "Barefoot and Crazy" which quickly became a radio smash and a soundtrack for the hot summer of 2009.
For Trailer Choir, the last two years have been a frenetic introduction to the national stage. From their signing with Show Dog Nashville to being named About.com's Best New Country Duo/Group, the trio made a notable impression on country music without seeming to pause for so much as an extra breath. But as they release their self-titled debut, Butter, Big Vinny and Crystal know their story will be told only as the full spectrum of their music unfolds for all to hear. Sheer energy got their foot in the door, but it is their heart that will help them take the room. And through it all, everyone stands to have one serious good time. Toby Keith's fans enthusiastically embraced the band and their good-time sound when they toured with him. Songs from the album "Off The Hillbilly Hook," including the title track, "My Next Five Beers," "Rollin' Through The Sunshine" and "Rockin' The Beer Gut," as well as their "did you see that?" stage show, led to a multitude of accomplishments. Those include 49 shows opening for Keith, performances at the CMA Music Festival and National Finals Rodeo, "Off The Hillbilly Hook" featured in the movie and soundtrack of the feature film Beer For My Horses, and the original song "Last Man Standing" used by ESPN & ABC in a national NASCAR promotion.

| LANKY THE CLOWN RETURNS TO ENTERTAIN THE 2010 CROWD |
Lanky the Clown, one of the most energetic and colorful clowns on the fair circuit, is coming to the Siskiyou Golden Fair! With over 25 years of clowning experience, Lanky and friends have traveled the world bringing smiles and laughter in over 10 different countries. In addition, international goodwill clowning tours and church clowning are part of his dedication to the art. With repeated tours to Russia and Guatemala, and a trip to Afghanistan and Cambodia as part of an International Coalition put together by the renowned Medical Doctor, Patch Adams – yes the same Patch Adams from the famed movie. The concept was to take the simple universal language of clowning to children of war torn countries. Thousands of children were visited, many in hospitals and orphanages. This tour was undertaken at great risk to the thirty or so clowns from around the world that took part in it. Lanky and the other tour participants returned to their home countries feeling enriched from the opportunity.
