The 2016 Siskiyou Central Credit Union was the place to be on March 12 & 13 if you like the great outdoors! With three big buildings full of vendors, Siskiyou Laser firewood processing demonstrations, the SCMA show and shine, great kid activities like the Siskiyou Bowmen Archery Range, the Fish and Wildlife fishing pond and the 10th DAA Friends of the Fair Rock Climbing Wall everyone left the fairground a winner! The NorCal Invitational Chainsaw Carving Championships crowned a “Quick Carve” and a “Main Carve” champion on Sunday. In the Quick Carve competition carver Steven Higgins from Kansas City, Missouri pulled out all the stops on Sunday and won the event. Higgins walked away with the $250 cash prize and a new Echo chainsaw donated by G&G Ace Hardware. Second place went to Garrett Aries from Allyn, Washington with a great bench both days and Bob King of Edgewood, Washington was third. In the main competition Bob King of Edgewood, Washington won with a great rendition of a bird hunter and his adult dog and a smaller pup. King awarded the $1000.00 first prize monies. In second with “Hunting the Fence Line” was Colby Herrington of Wilkeson, Washington. Herrington also created a scene with a dog but included pheasants. Third was Steven Higgins with “Call of the Wild” and Ryan Anderson of Reedsport, Oregon, a contestant all three years here, created a Bear, Eagle and Salmon to finish fourth. “The 2016 show was impressive” stated fair CEO, Cliff Munson, “This has been a great addition to the Expo and the competition was fierce with 5 or 6 carvers that could be considered the best in the world!” In the 2016 Wonderland Distributing Head and Horns competition, Don Lovelace of Yreka brought in a Non-typical Mule Deer that measured 188 0/10 to win the 2016 contest. In second was Andrew Stone of Horse Creek with a Columbia Blacktail that scored 139 7/8 and third went to Trenten Campbell of Hornbrook with a Non-typical Mule Deer 180 0/8.Prizes were donated by Sears of Yreka. The Expo had several drawings for prizes including a print by Steele Roberts Ross, Clarity Medical Spa Gift Certificates, Mt. Shasta Ski Park ski passes and Fun Factory gift certificates. The winners were Jessica Beer, Travis Cooke, Michael Peterson and Andrew Mylan.
